SKY MEADOWS
STATE
PARK
PARIS, VA
OCTOBER 28, 2007 (notes and photos by Ed Cooper) Sky Meadows State Park was decked out in its autumn colors specifically for the visit by WSLP. Unfortunately those glorious colors also attracted the masses of people who came also for the funnel cakes, wine tasting, pumpkins, etc. It seems the park people had the audacity to schedule a fall event on our day!! Does no one appreciate and respect art anymore? In many ways it was a beautiful day at Sky Meadows, at least for some people. The sky was mostly clear with a few artistic clouds floating around. The temperature was a little cool and there was a brisk wind blowing. This bothered a few artists who chose to paint in the shade of trees - away from the warmth of the sun - and in a spot where they got the full force of the wind. They were indeed the brave heroes of the day, enduring discomfort for the sake of art. On the other hand our President found a cozy sunlit and wind protected spot sitting in a chair on the porch of the main house. I guess that is why she is President. Two other WSLP members (I won't tell you their names, but one is from Berryville and the other is from Easton) took a short walk to a sun warmed, wind protected spot behind some trees near the park office. What disgraceful behavior, have they never heard "no pain, no gain"? I am sure this lack of an adventuresome spirit and desire for comfort was reflected in the quality of their work. Would Monet or van Gogh have sought such superficial comforts? On the whole I feel everyone was satisfied with what they did. Ten members were present; Ed Cooper, Bernie Dellario, Mike Heylin, Leonard Justinian, Al Marra, Lou Negri, Barbara Nuss, Jack Pardue, Glenn Perry, and Nancy Tankersley. There were also two guests present; Meg Walsh and Wilson Webb. |
